Biography
Melissa was born and raised in southern New Jersey. She attended the Southern New Jersey Academy of Performing Arts, also known as the Gloucester County Institute of Technology, for her four years of high school, majoring in the Performing Arts. She was in multiple stage productions, including Dark of The Moon, and stage managed Shakespeare's Taming of The Shrew her senior year. She graduated in 2007 as 28th in her class with a 3.6 grade point average.
Early in the new year of Melissa's last year of high school, she received her acceptance letter from Penn State University, attending the Harrisburg campus for the following fall semester, where she stayed for two years. In order to finish her degree in Broadcast Journalism, she transferred to University Park in State College for her junior year. Pandora's box opened, and Melissa indulged in many activities offered by the campus. While working part time, and going to school full time, she was a script writer for PSN-TV, and also wrote, anchored, directed, and produced live radio news casts for the Penn State radio station every Friday afternoon.
The school work didn't end when summer began. Before her junior year, Melissa was offered an internship with the Gloucester County Educational Network, where she was a video production assistant. Here, she filmed, edited, and produced television segments, along with a little work in front of the camera; she was offered to be in a few public service announcements, which aired on the network regularly.
The following summer before her last year at Penn State, Melissa had the opportunity to work at 97.5 the Fanatic, an affiliate of ESPN in Philadelphia, which is the first FM sports station in the Philadelphia region. Melissa, working as a radio production assistant, cut, edited, and made commercials for the station, along with promos, and air checks. She also updated the station's website with sound bites from the show, and current events, all while keeping 97.5 listeners up to date with recent sports facts.
Melissa graduated in May, 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, and a Theater minor. She earned a spot interning for NBC 10 News in Philadelphia in the Investigative Department. She's produced weekend and morning shows for Fox44/ABC22, a duel station, in Colchester, Vermont. Melissa now lives in Roanoke, Virginia, where she works as the Mornin' Show producer, the number one morning show in the region, for WDBJ7 News.
